about
Burden is an apology song to our younger selves. For every time we resent our bodies for a perceived flaw, for not looking or doing what we think they should be, and for feeling pushed by social pressures to change ourselves. The story is a personal one, but I'm sure one that many can relate to in different ways.
lyrics
I'm sorry for the way I treated you.
My resentment was misplaced, misdirected, wasn't fair.
I can't take back the hurtful things I thought of you,
My impatience my frustration is no excuse.
You were stronger than I ever knew,
When I was pushed to keep on hurting you.
You pushed back and so my hatred grew,
Like a weed I saw a burden in you.
Like a weed I saw a burden in you.
I was lead to believe that you were something to be shamed about,
To push, to force, to change and now
My biggest crime was ever listening.
I can't believe the times I let self-doubt dictate my mind,
Perform my joy, renounce my choice,
Satisfying them, forsaking you.
Oh I've forsaken you.
I'm sorry for the pain I put us through.
My desperation was coerced, misinformed it wasn't right.
I can't shake off the hurtful things I thought of you.
My impatience, my frustration is no excuse.
No one told me how to nurture you,
They just told me keep on pushing through.
He lead me to believe that I had something to be shamed about,
He pushed, to force, to change and now
My biggest crime was ever listening.
I can't believe the times he let self-doubt dictate my mind,
Perform my joy, renounce my choice,
Satisfying him, forsaking me.
Oh I've forsaken me.
